Christmas bells ringing and carols playing all around us today. I hope you too are celebrating.

You may not be celebrating Christmas, but I hope you’re homes are warm and happy. And filled with laughter. Your family and friends are around you to share your blessings. 

Blessings are of no use if they cannot be shared. The same go for calories. They must be shared.

So now that #sharethecalories is my trademark. You’ve been reading…I love to bake, but I can’t eat so much . So I need to share the the calories. 

We’re doing some super chocolatey ,boozy ,nutty brownies here at the moment. Cocoa , a whole lot of chocolate and a whole lot of nuts.

And a whole half patiala peg of brandy.

A patiala peg is 120 mils of liquor on the rocks. I would have put it all, but the brownie would’ve become more cake then.

Plus that hubby dear would’ve questioned my sanity in allowing sweet child to partake such a boozy treat.

Plus that bottle of Johnny Walker is almost over.

Plus I take no guarantees of what might happen to so much alcohol in the oven.

Don’t blame me if it starts a fire…

Anyways ,this brownie batter doesn’t need so much liquid. 

There’s so much chocolate, I wanted to add candied oranges. However ,sweet child rules and declared that brownies must only have nuts. So we added nuts. I have this whole bag of hazelnuts that were supposed to be grounded Into homemade nutella, but I became lazy and the bag got stashed somewhere in some Tupperware. I recently rediscovered them and realized that they need to be consumed asap. Hence the nutty brownies.

Simple ,just a few changes to my double chocolate brownies that I do normally. Oh and these are whole wheat. Why? Because I ran out of all purpose flour. Accidents can make your life better.

You can change the nuts ,or replace them.with cranberries or use white chocolate …and sea salt. 

For the 

Boozy ,Nutty Brownies

You need

1/2 cup plus 2 tbsp whole wheat flour (that’s 5/8 of a cup)

1 cup sugar

1 egg

60 mils of any booze of your choice -or a.mix of water and booze

Pinch sea salt 

1 tsp vanilla essence

1/4 tsp baking soda 

1/4 cup cocoa

80 mils (1/3 cup) melted butter

1 cup chopped chocolate and hazelnuts/ walnuts 

Preheat your oven to 170℃ and line an 8 inch square tin with parchment paper. 

In a large bowl mix the cocoa powder with half the melted butter and then add in the booze.  Whisk in the egg and the vanilla essence . Add the sugar and mix well.

Now add in the flour and baking powder . Pop in the nuts and chopped chocolate and then mix once for the last time.

Pour or spoon in the batter into the prepared tin and try and spread the nuts around with the spatula. Pop into the oven for 35-40 minutes and bring out when the sides move away. 

The brownie must be cooked…remember all that chocolate will be all molten and melty if you cut it soon… And the crust will not have formed.

The crust forms because of less flour and more fat…so there’s fat from butter and the fat from the chocolate,too.

Cool, sprinkle with icing sugar , cut into squares and serve. Or eat yourself.

Remember the amount of booze you put in???  

After all, it is the season to be eating chocolate and drinking whiskey. You’re just going it together. So Cheers. I could’ve added rum, but there’s been So much Old Monk around this last few weeks , we needed  a break from that. So sir johnny walker it was. I couldn’t taste much of it though…we’d run out of the home made Bailey’s and Chocolate vodka , otherwise I would’ve added that.

I’m not too fond of nuts, but the brownies are now down to the last couple…sweet child is eating a square and then counting out like a million pushups.

Crazy huh???

But its the season…. And after all life is what you bake of it.
