Oreo Cookies Fudge Happy Diwali

Chocolate Bark Candied Orange and Pomegranate Happy Diwali
Pistachio , Sour Cherries and White Chocolate Fudge and Happy Diwali

p_20161020_124159_df-1It’s all about celebrations here.

And when there’s chocolate, there’s always a celebration.

And adding to that are the Oreo cookies. These cookies can elevate just anything they touch. As though they have a midas touch.

Gold and all that shimmer.

The sour cherries where thrown in for the color relief. And when we ate these together, the combination was awesome.

So if you have no sour cherries, don’t fret. Get a bag of dried cranberries and plop them in.  They’re just as awesome. Only the dried cherries are more red.

p_20161020_124305-1And they look good with anything. Just like red lipstick.

Oh and you know all that blah about the antioxidants and vitamins and minerals etc in any dried fruit.

We’re celebrating here. So no one really cares about vitamins.

At the moment, you know that when you circulate that platter of fudge anybody with a soft spot for chocolate will pick the Oreo studded fudge.

The oreo doesn’t stay crisp and doesn’t become soggy. It just melds with the Chocolate to become one.

I added a raspberry extract , vanilla would have been fabulous. I had plans to sprinkle freeze dried raspberry on the top, but I forgot. And yes, those beady eyes were following me. They were most disappointed when I popped that fudge into the fridge to chill.

And he came out from under the bed when he smelled the sugar.

And he watches me…

Every snack I make, every bite I take , every tub I empty he is watching me.

More so now, since we’ve stopped giving him any sugar at all.

So he keeps looking at me . All the time , every time.

And then he looks so cute.

So this is the one I should have posted first, because it’s so darn easy.

But that green Pistachio and Sour Cherries fudge was so beautiful ,I couldn’t fudge myself.

Oops help myself.

This is the same base fudge.

250 gms white chocolate Morde

125 gms condensed milk

45 gms butter

3-5 drops raspberry or vanilla extract

I’d suggest a tart fruit like sour cherries or cranberries

10 Oreos just broken

LINE a square or rectangular tin 5 *5 inches in size  with parchment paper.

I used my borosil bowl as that has a lid.

I just broke the oreos and removed the crumbs coz I wanted the fudge to be clean.

All you need to do is   weigh out the butter, condensed milk and white chocolate.

Weigh is the operative word . Too much condensed milk and the fudge doesn’t hold shape.

20161021_222912So on very low heat, allow them to combine ,while stirring frequently.

Add in the essence and add the sour cherries or cranberries. The Oreos taste yum, but these sour bits add a new dimension to the taste .

Now mix in the Oreos leaving a couple to stud on top.

Scrape the fudge into the prepped tin with a spatula and pat it down to even it out.

Stud the remaining Oreo cookies, jamming them into the fudge.

Cover and chill.

After a minimum 4 hours, bring out of the fridge and cut using a big knife.p_20161020_121253

That mehendi is becauseof Karvachauth. Yup ,I wanted to show that off too.

All done by yours truly.

Crumbs are minimum because the oreos have set in the fudge.

Fresh raspberry would be so gorgeous in the fudge.. we’d have had a beauty queen here-Miss Universe type beauty queen.

This is a sweet fudge and you cant eat too much of it.

So share and make this to gift.

Soan papri or lotto Chocopie are like bad karma.

You gift that for Diwali, you’ll get it back.

Don’t tell me I didn’t warn you.

So buy a pretty plate or two, make a truck load of fudge and gift this to your friends.

p_20161020_124112_dfThere wont be any left to return to you like bad karma.

Indulge a little.

After all it’s Diwali. So make fudge and be happy.

May the  Goddess  Lakshmi bless you and your home.p_20161020_124341-1

May you always have enough butter and chocolate in your cupboards and may your ovens always work.

And may you have the generosity of spirit to share your blessings with those less fortunate.

That’s an example of doodling with a mehendi cone.

PS . The fudge needs to be refrigerated in a closed tin as it absorbs odors fast. You can cut into miniscule bits and store for popping in when cravings hit you the hardest. They will stay fresh at least a month in the fridge. The oreo may get soft ,but it allows you to bite into it easily.

And always remember..

Good things come to those who make fudge- and bake.

Shivanjali thanks for visiting Baketitude. The total time to cook the fudge should not be more than 5 minutes. The intent is not to cook, just melt the cocoa fat and butter and ensure it emulsifies with the condensed milk. As the chocolate cools ,it will harden and set. So you need to store the fudge in the fridge. Stays fresh in Tupperware. I’ve still got leftovers from diwali… we eat it one tiny bite at a time.
      Cheers
